Martha White, 63, was babysitting her grandsons Mason Rhinehart and his brother for the day while their parents were at work. Mason and his brother were playing video games at their home when their grandmother stopped them and said she had a surprise for them.
White took the 6-year-old Mason into the bathroom and locked the door. Mason older brother, 8, then heard his brother start to cry and screams come from the bathroom. Mason was screaming, “I don’t want to die, please don’t kill me.”
The brother tried to get into the bathroom, but couldn’t get into the room. He then called his dad and hid in the house.
First responders were on the scene within five minutes and found Mason lying on the bathroom floor with multiple stab wounds to the chest. Mason was rushed to the hospital and died from his wounds. White was not at the home when first responders arrived.
The older brother said he saw his grandmother leave the home with home a bottle of wine and told him that she had a surprise for him too.
Officers found White a half-mile away from the boys’ home covered in blood and with a bottle of wine and Xanax in her vehicle. She was put under medical evaluation at local hospital. She was released sometime later and taken to the Leon County Jail where she was booked and charged for first degree murder. Investigators say that it’s to early to speculate on the motive, but White told officers that she was fed up with the boys.
